Nigeria government says retaliation against South Africa not off the table

Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigeria Minister of Foreign Affairs, just announced that retaliatory actions against South Africa are still on the table because their government has done nothing to stop the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians. She said this while briefing journalists on the efforts to evacuate our citizens from South Africa.

The Minister insisted that the claim most Nigerians in South Africa are illegal immigrants is a lie. She said, "Dem dey harras our citizens, dey loot dia properties, dey carry out criminal actions against dem. Di police refuse to do anytin." She reminded everyone that Nigeria supported South Africa during apartheid, reserving seats in our schools and protesting for their freedom. Now they are treating us like this.

The first evacuation flight was postponed from Monday to Wednesday due to logistics, while Ghana has already brought back over 600 of their citizens. President Cyril Ramaphosa said they will fight illegal migration but asked for peace and love not violence. But how can you preach peace when your citizens are burning shops and looting properties?
