Ondo woman arrested for allegedly cutting her husband with a cutlass
5 months ago
The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a woman named Mary Olatunde for allegedly attacking her husband Julius Olatunde with a cutlass during a domestic dispute at their home in Ilado, Igbatoro road, Akure. The victim suffered serious bodily injuries and the matter was reported to the Gender-Based Offences Unit by neighbours who witnessed the incident.
Police Public Relations Officer Abayomi Jimoh confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect has been charged to court and is currently facing prosecution. He made it clear that the Command views domestic violence as a serious threat to safety and dignity regardless of the gender of the perpetrator or victim.
This case is a reminder that domestic violence is not a one-way street. Men can also be victims and they deserve the same protection under the law. The Police Public Relations Officer said the Command encourages members of the public to report cases of domestic violence promptly to the nearest station or the GBV Unit. I hope this sets a precedent for equal treatment under the law.
