Tinubu's reforms are working but we are still suffering
5 months ago
President Tinubu's economic reforms have actually started showing some positive signs. Inflation dropped below 20% for the first time in almost 3 years in 2025, and foreign exchange reserves have recovered to over 43 billion USD. The CBN even cut policy rates in September 2025. But let's be real, the cost of living crisis is still crushing ordinary Nigerians. The naira lost 70% of its value against the dollar, GDP per capita more than halved from 476 billion USD in 2022 to 188 billion USD in 2024, and poverty has been rising for over two decades.
I see people on Twitter celebrating these macroeconomic numbers like we are all eating the GDP. Meanwhile, fuel subsidy removal hit us hard, inflation peaked at 34% in November 2024, and the IMF says inflation won't drop to 10% until 2029. So tell me, how is any of this making life easier for the person earning 50k in Makurdi or selling tomatoes in Mile 12 Market? The reforms might fix the country in 10 years, but we are surviving today.
Be honest, has your personal finances improved since Tinubu came in, or are you just seeing these numbers on paper?
