EFCC chairman Olukoyede is actually doing something different and it's working

I just finished reading about what Ola Olukoyede has been doing at EFCC since October 2023 and honestly I am impressed. The man came in and changed the whole strategy. No more media trial, no more leaking information to the press before a case even gets to court. They renamed the Department of Internal Affairs to Department of Ethics and Integrity. That alone tells you the level of seriousness.

Under his leadership, EFCC secured 7,503 convictions in two years. That is not small. They arrested 193 foreigners including 148 Chinese and 40 Filipinos in a covert operation at a seven-storey building in Victoria Island. Imagine using Nigeria as a base for cryptocurrency fraud and romance scam. They deported 102 of them after convicting them for cyber-terrorism and internet fraud. The man even sacked 27 of his own staff for misconduct and compromising the commission's integrity.

High profile cases like those of former governors Willie Obiano, Yahaya Bello, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Darius Ishaku, Theodore Orji, and former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele are now in court. The headlines are no longer about EFCC harassment. They are about actual convictions and recovered funds. My question is, can this momentum last or will the system swallow him like the others before him?
