Police invade journalist home at 6am for Osogbo, IPC dey demand apology

Na so police officers from Osun State invade the home of Olalekan Akindoju, who be Secretary of NUJ Osun State Council, at 6am on Thursday. Dem arrest am, seize im phone, and hold am for almost five hours before releasing am. The man tell IPC Press Freedom Officer Melody Akinjiyan say dem no even listen to am when he say he be journalist, dem just carry am go like criminal.

Now IPC don call on CP Ibrahim Gotan to investigate the matter and make police apologize officially to Akindoju. Lanre Arogundade, IPC Executive Director, talk say this kind thing no good at all, that police must do their homework before arresting people, especially journalists. The whole thing na case of mistaken identity according to police, but how you go mistake a man for criminal for im own house at 6am?

This one na pure intimidation against press freedom. If police can just invade anybody house like that for early morning, who go safe? When will our security agencies learn to respect the rights of citizens?
