Omotola just reminded us who paved the way for Afrobeats

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde dropped some old Nollywood clips today and she's not wrong — we were breaking international barriers before Burna Boy made it cool. The woman literally posted scenes from her early movies and captioned it with facts about how Nollywood opened doors globally.

She said on her page that Nollywood was doing the heavy lifting while Afrobeats was still finding its footing. And honestly? The receipts are there. We were selling out cinemas in Ghana, UK, and US before any of these new gen artists had their first international show.

Now everybody wants to claim Nigerian entertainment started with music. Omotola came to remind us that Nollywood mums and dads were the original ambassadors. Which industry do you think actually put Nigeria on the map first?
