NHRC just called out INEC and politicians ahead of 2027, and I am here for it

Tony Ojukwu of the NHRC came out strong today on Democracy Day, saying INEC, security agencies, and politicians need to be held accountable before 2027. He reminded us that June 12, 1993 was the freest election we ever had, and now we are dealing with vote buying, suppression, and result manipulation like it is normal. He said credible elections are a fundamental human right, not a privilege, and I agree 100%.

But let us be real — we have heard this same talk every year since 1999. The National Assembly just passed the 2026 Electoral Act, yet nobody trusts the process. The Ekiti and Osun offcycle elections later this year will show us if Joash Amupitan-led INEC can actually deliver a clean poll. I am not holding my breath.
