Africans celebrate South Africa's World Cup loss because of xenophobia

South Africa just lost 2-0 to Mexico in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup yesterday and instead of the usual pan-African support, Africans are actually celebrating. I dey hear say people from Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and other countries are donning Mexican jerseys and traveling to Mexico to show solidarity with the host nation. All because of the xenophobic attacks and deportations South Africa has been carrying out against our people.

Nigerians especially are in full jubilation mode. After all the murders of our citizens and deportations even of those with legal papers, nobody is in the mood to support a country that treats us like enemies. South Africans are now saying sports and politics should not mix but when your government has been killing and deporting Africans, you cannot expect us to clap for your team. Mexico fans are even surprised and grateful for the support from Africa.
