The Abuja wedding guest economy is a full time job
5 months ago
Wallahi I am still recovering from the last wedding I attended in Wuse. The invitation said 12pm, the bride arrived at 4pm, and by the time we ate, it was 8pm. I had already spent money on asoebi, gele tying, transport, and a gift. Then they start passing the envelope for the couple's 'appreciation'.
My husband looked at me like I was the one who planned the timeline. Meanwhile the MC is shouting 'spray your blessings' and I am calculating how much I have left for school fees next term. The worst part is the couple will post the wedding video online and caption it 'we had the best day of our lives' while guests are stranded at the venue at 10pm looking for taxis that now cost double because of 'night fare'.
From where I sit in Abuja, wedding season is the real reason we are all broke. Who decided that a wedding must last 10 hours and drain your entire month's salary?
