Tinubu finally admits the obvious about insecurity
5 months ago
President Bola Tinubu today during his Democracy Day broadcast finally said what we've all been screaming for years. He blamed the insecurity in Nigeria on the collapse of grassroots governance. The man said, and I quote: 'The insecurity we are addressing is partly due to the collapse of grassroots governance.'
So after all the billions spent on security votes, all the military deployments, all the 'renewed hope' talk, the president is now telling us the problem is that local government councils have been useless since 1999. He said his administration is seeking financial autonomy for the 774 local councils. But be honest, how many of our local government chairmen even know the people in their domain? In Owerri, our local government chairman is always in Abuja chasing contracts while bandits are terrorizing villages.
This is the same government that has been spending billions on security without fixing the foundation. If you know that grassroots governance is the problem, why did it take you two years to say it? Abi na today you just discover? Let's argue this... Am I the only one that thinks this is just another way to shift blame instead of taking real action?
