We have accepted insecurity as normal and that is more dangerous than the criminals

I was talking to my friend from Uyo last night and she casually said "I don't travel after 5pm anymore, it's not safe." And I just sat there thinking, when did this become normal? When did we start planning our lives around where kidnappers might be waiting and just accepting it like it's a weather forecast?

Nigeria recorded over 4,700 abductions in one year with ransom demands above ₦48 billion. Over 4,600 deaths in 2025 alone. Over 1,500 students kidnapped. But we just adjust our travel times and move on. We don't even get angry anymore, we just adapt. That is the real crisis. When a country's citizens stop treating danger as an emergency and start treating it as Tuesday, the government has already failed us completely.

Nobody will talk about this but the desensitization is worse than the insecurity itself. We are teaching ourselves to be quiet and careful instead of demanding safety. Am I the only one that thinks this is where we lost the plot?
