Sultan finally speak on June 12, insecurity, and false criminalisation of Muslims

NSCIA leader Sultan of Sokoto Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar just release statement today on June 12 commending our 27 years of uninterrupted democracy. But e no stop there — the council also condemn all the banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism wey dey claim innocent lives across Nigeria.

But the part wey catch my attention na where NSCIA say make we stop giving criminality ethnic or religious coloration. According to the statement by Abbas Jimoh, the council say some people dey falsely associate Nigerian Muslims with banditry and kidnapping, and that this religious profiling is false and grossly unfair. They even mention the kidnap of students and teachers in Orire LGA Oyo State, saying the suspects arrested so far no show as Fulanis like the initial report claimed.

So I just dey wonder — why we always dey quick to blame religion or tribe when crime happen? Instead of focusing on the criminals themselves, we turn am to war between Muslims and Christians or between Hausa and Yoruba. Abi no be true?
