Police fired tear gas at protesters on Democracy Day in Abuja

So today being June 12, Democracy Day, some citizens went to protest bad governance and insecurity in Abuja. And police officers fired tear gas at them. Not just the protesters but journalists covering the event too. Make it make sense.

These people are demanding government action on economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment, and rising cost of living. Meanwhile we just had schoolchildren and teachers kidnapped in Oyo and Borno recently. Families can barely afford one decent meal a day. And on a day meant to celebrate democracy, we are gassing citizens for speaking up.

This is the 27th year of uninterrupted democracy and this is where we are. Something has to give.
