PDP says democracy still struggling 33 years after June 12 — and they are not wrong

So the PDP faction led by Taminu Turaki came out yesterday and said what we are all thinking — that 33 years after June 12, democracy in Nigeria is still struggling. Their spokesman Ini Ememobong dropped a statement that hit hard, especially the part where they said on a day meant to honor democratic martyrs, peaceful protesters were tear-gassed in Abuja and Omoleye Sowore was reportedly injured and hospitalized just for demanding the release of kidnapped schoolchildren.

Now I know some of you will say PDP has no right to talk because they messed up when they were in power. But be honest, does that make what they said false? The Tinubu administration prioritizes optics over action and propaganda over policy — that is a direct quote from the PDP statement and it is painful because it is true. The question is not whether PDP is the alternative. The question is whether any government we have ever had actually learned the lessons of June 12.
