Lagos tech scene is actually insane right now

So I was just reading this report and Lagos has officially been crowned the world's fastest-growing tech hub. Like, out of 288 global cities, Lagos ranked number one. The entire ecosystem is now valued at $15.3 billion and these startups have raised over $6 billion in foreign funding between 2019 and 2024. That's more than 70% of Nigeria's total tech investment in that period.

And get this — we now have five unicorns. Flutterwave, OPay, Interswitch, Moniepoint, and Jumia. These are companies worth over $1 billion each. The rate of unicorn creation has tripled since 2019. Meanwhile I'm here in Jos struggling to buy data to apply for graphic design gigs online. The contrast is mad.

But honestly, the part that got me is that this success didn't come from polished boardrooms. It came from solving real Lagos problems — traffic, electricity, banking the unbanked. These startups turned our everyday struggles into billion-dollar solutions. Makes me wonder, what problems are we ignoring in Plateau that could be our own unicorn?
