Benue genocide memorial unveiled — 270 names on that wall

I just saw the news about the Yelewata Genocide Memorial Monument being unveiled in Benue State yesterday and my heart is heavy. Over 270 victims from the June 13 and 14 attacks last year now have their names permanently carved on that monument.

Franc Utoo, the lawyer who facilitated it, said the monument is a historical record so future generations don't forget what happened. Bishop Wilfred Anagbe of Makurdi Diocese also spoke — he said relocating displaced people permanently from their ancestral lands is not the solution, they need to go back home.

This is not just a stone structure. Those are real people's names. Real families that are still crying. Who else has been following this Benue crisis and feels like nobody is talking about it enough?
