El-Rufai's son just exposed Nigeria's democracy on Democracy Day

Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, used Democracy Day to call out the government. He posted on X that his father's continued detention by the ICPC shows our democracy is far from complete. The man has been in custody since they arrested him at Abuja airport earlier this year over corruption allegations from his time as governor.

Bello said democracy only thrives when leadership is accountable and citizens are empowered. But here we are celebrating a day meant for freedom while a former governor sits in detention without proper due process. The son even said the abuse of citizens' rights remains a troubling reality in Nigeria.

I am not saying El-Rufai is innocent o. If he did corruption, let them prove it in court. But keeping someone locked up for months without trial is not democracy by any definition. Be honest, would you feel this way if it was your own father?
