So UNICEF just drop bomb today. Celine Lafoucriere, their Lagos chief, say many Nigerian children cannot play because dem dey too afraid to even come to school. She talk say some children don been taken from their schools in Borno, Niger, Kebbi, and even Oyo state last month. Some of them never come back home.
Na wetin she talk pain me pass. She say, 'Let me start with our children. We are glad you are here today, and we are glad you are safe because right now, across this country, there are children who cannot say the same.' She even say the school compound wey suppose be the safest place don become place of fear. And she talk say play na the real work of childhood — no worksheet fit do wetin play do for brain development.
Dr Hakeem Shittu from LASUBEB also talk say children learn better when dem happy and playing. But how e go happen when insecurity dey choke everywhere? A child wey no safe cannot learn. A child wey no dey play cannot grow. Be honest, how many of us still send our pikin to school with peace of mind for this country?
