Instagram, Facebook suffer global outage

Meta-owned social media platforms Instagram and Facebook suffered a global outage on Friday, leaving millions unable to access their accounts. Users were automatically logged out and faced error messages saying "an unexpected error occurred" when trying to log back in. Facebook's website displayed a notice that the company was working to resolve the issue.

Downdetector recorded a sharp spike in reports, with over 100,000 people unable to log into the Facebook app, 9,000 reporting Instagram problems, and 20,000 affected on Facebook Messenger. Many users turned to X platform to confirm the disruption. As of Friday afternoon, Meta had not released an official statement on the cause of the outage.
