Ebola – Again

Ebola has resurfaced. From May 15, 2026, an outbreak of Ebola Disease (EBOD) was reported in Ituri province, Democratic Republic of Congo. By June 8, there were 515 diagnosed cases and 91 confirmed deaths. The disease has spread to neighboring Uganda, where 19 cases were recorded. The affected area in Eastern Congo is plagued by intense war between government forces and armed groups, including the Allied Democratic Forces.

This outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, which has a high case fatality rate of 50% or more. Health workers are particularly vulnerable. An American doctor who contracted the infection while working with an aid organization in Congo has recovered. "Infected people can transmit the disease to others before they themselves show any symptoms," experts warn. Symptoms include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, and bleeding, which can be confused with malaria or typhoid.
