A Nigerian who worked for a Chinese cybercrime ring in Lagos has described a systematic fraud operation that exploited local tech workers. The insider, speaking anonymously, detailed how the syndicate recruited young Nigerians to run romance scams and business email compromises from a secured facility in Victoria Island. He alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was aware of the activities but took no action, claiming some agents received bribes to look the other way. "They knew what was happening, but the money changed hands and the raids never came," he said. The ring reportedly paid workers between ₦150,000 and ₦300,000 monthly, with Chinese handlers controlling all finances. The whistleblower said he left after refusing to train new recruits on advanced phishing techniques, fearing arrest while the real operators remained protected.
