Protest in South Africa: Nigeria government, Bianca Ojukwu react to xenophobic attacks for South Africa after Cyril Ramaphosa address

Nigeria's government says retaliatory actions against South Africa are "not off the table" due to the continued mistreatment of Nigerians there. Foreign Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu made the statement while briefing on efforts to bring Nigerians home.

She rejected claims that most Nigerians in South Africa are illegal immigrants, calling it a lie. "Dem dey harras our citizens, dey loot dia properties, dey carry out criminal actions against dem. Di police refuse to do anytin," Ojukwu said. She noted Nigeria's historic support for South Africa during apartheid, saying the treatment is undeserved. President Bola Tinubu has approved repatriation plans, with the first flight postponed from Monday to Wednesday to finalize logistics. Other agencies like NEMA will help reintegrate returnees.
