Obasanjo meets OK Movement leaders, backs Obi and Kwankwaso for 2027
5 months ago
The leadership of the OK Movement, the support group for Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Friday. This was June 12, Democracy Day, and they posted about it on their X handle that night. They called it a powerful and strategic meeting that reaffirmed their shared commitment to a stronger, more united, and progressive Nigeria.
Now, I have been watching Nigerian politics since the Second Republic, and I know that Obasanjo does not meet with just anybody. The fact that he gave them time on such a symbolic date tells me he is serious about backing this alliance for 2027. The OK Movement said the wisdom and experience shared during the meeting will energize their efforts to build a people-centered movement. I find this very interesting because Obasanjo has been known to anoint candidates in the past, but he usually does it quietly.
My question is simple: can this alliance between Obi and Kwankwaso survive the internal politics of their respective camps? We saw what happened in 2023 when they could not agree. If Obasanjo is now lending his weight, maybe this time will be different. What do you think, can the OBIdients and Kwankwasiyya really work together under one banner?
