Democracy day in Nigeria: 27 years and we are still begging for basic things

I just read what Emeke Johnson, a public affairs analyst, said about Nigeria's democracy day and it hit me hard. He said things are very difficult, people are barely surviving, and the economic situation is troubling. He asked what the function of government is when insecurity is rising and mass abduction is daily. That question has been ringing in my head since morning.

Then you have Kevwe Ogbo, a commercial motorcyclist in Asaba, saying democracy has not benefited the masses. He said fuel is N1,400 a litre and the money he makes daily can no longer feed his family. Meanwhile Monday Nkeonye from APC is telling us to be patient and that the hardship will soon be over. Patient for how long? 27 years of uninterrupted democracy and we are still having these same conversations.

Isaac Mordi a security officer summed it up well when he said people have no confidence in our institutions and the government needs to work for every Nigerian not just the ruling class. Poverty is increasing. So who is this democracy really working for?
