Bandits Hit Kogi School, Kill VP and Six-Year-Old Child
5 months ago
Bandits attacked Government Secondary School in Iluke, Bunu District of Kogi State early Wednesday morning and killed the vice principal, a six-year-old child, and another resident. They also abducted several students and residents before escaping into the nearby forest.
This is the kind of thing that makes you wonder what security really means in this country. A school supposed to be a safe place for children to learn, and armed men just walk in and take lives like that. The vice principal died trying to protect students, and a six-year-old didn't even understand what was happening.
Security personnel have been deployed and state authorities say they will intensify efforts to rescue those kidnapped and catch the perpetrators. But how many times have we heard that promise before and nothing changed? Are we ever going to take school security seriously in Nigeria?
