Afenifere says Nigeria sitting on a keg of gunpowder
5 months ago
Afenifere just dropped a communique from their US wing and the wording is very clear. They said Nigeria under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration is sitting on a keg of gunpowder. The group signed by Prof. Sikiru Fadairo, Chief Frank Adetu, and David Adeyinka Adenekan warned that insecurity plus economic hardship plus public dissatisfaction is a dangerous cocktail that can break this country if we don't act fast.
They directly asked why the government is not using modern technology like drones and satellite intelligence to fight terrorism. And they called out the policy of giving amnesty to terrorists while victims suffer. That part got me. You mean we are deradicalising people who kidnapped our children and killed our farmers? For what exactly? The communique also demanded state police which many people have been shouting for since forever but nobody in Abuja is listening.
At this point I don't even know if Tinubu's team is just waiting for something catastrophic to happen before they move. Afenifere is not some random social media handle. These are Yoruba elders with history. When they say national stability is under threat, who are we to argue? Be honest, do you still feel safe in this country?
