We are celebrating June 12 but our economy is a graveyard

So Ibrahim Babangida annulled the freest and fairest election we ever had in 1993, and here we are 33 years later still celebrating a cancelled election instead of the democracy it was supposed to birth. The man installed Ernest Shonekan as interim head, then Sani Abacha shoved Shonekan aside with his dark goggles. We finally got civilian rule in 1999 after Abacha died, and yes we have had smooth handovers since then. But tell me, what is the point of uninterrupted civilian rule when millions of Nigerians are now scavenging for leftovers in refuse dumps under Tinubu's economic policies?

Our security situation has returned us to a Hobbesian state of nature where life is short, brutish and nasty. Bandits and kidnappers are having a field day in the north and south-west. We are still importing things we can produce locally because our leaders lack vision and have raided the national treasury. The article said it best, a country cannot grow bigger than the vision of its national leaders. So as we mark 36 years of that annulled election, are we really better off than we were under military rule? Be honest.
