Edo govt reopens schools shut over kidnap threats — was the panic real?
Edo State Government just approved reopening of three schools in Akoko-Edo LGA that were shut because SSS warned about a kidnap plot. Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Makeke Secondary School will resume normal activities on Monday June 15.
Permanent Secretary Enodolomwanyi Otamere said in a circular that after reviewing security situation with relevant agencies, they're satisfied adequate measures are in place. Students writing WASSCE were already writing under special security arrangements.
So the question is — were we overreacting by shutting schools completely, or is this just a temporary calm before another storm? Parents are still uneasy but government says they've deployed extra safety mechanisms. Who actually believes these assurances?
