DSS and Military Just Saved WAEC Students From Kidnap Plot

Just in — DSS and Nigerian Army operatives foiled a serious kidnap plot by the Eastern Security Network (ESN) targeting WAEC students in the South-East. They raided an ESN armoury in Agbani, Enugu State on Wednesday and recovered eight AK-47 rifles, 12 magazines, 323 rounds of ammunition, and even NYSC uniforms — the attackers planned to disguise themselves as corps members to abduct students writing WASSCE in Enugu, Anambra, and Imo States.

This is mad. Imagine your child going to sit for WAEC and some criminals show up in NYSC uniform pretending to be helpers. Security sources say the group wanted to create the impression bandits had infiltrated the region. They also recovered a rocket launcher, RPG warheads, and over 700 rounds of ammunition from another raid in Garki area the day before. Several suspects were arrested.

This comes just a week after DSS arrested five arms couriers linked to the St Mary's Catholic School abduction in Niger State. The ESN has been carrying out kidnappings and attacks on security personnel across the South-East. How many more students need to be in danger before we take these threats seriously?
