Tinubu's reforms made companies richer while we suffer
5 months ago
Three years after Tinubu launched these reforms, 27 companies on NGX saw their operating cash flow jump from N1.9 trillion in Q1 2023 to N6.6 trillion in Q1 2026. That is a 247 percent increase. Meanwhile petrol went from N264 per litre to N1,288 and the naira crashed from N460 to over N1,500 per dollar.
Muda Yusuf, CEO of CPPE, said it plain: the reforms brought inflationary shock, declining real incomes, and a cost-of-living crisis. But the same reforms eliminated distortions that constrained businesses. So Dangote Cement, MTN, Zenith Bank, and the rest are swimming in cash while households are drowning.
Who exactly are these reforms for? If the cash is flowing to companies but not to the people, something is fundamentally wrong.
