Blessing Fubara says he has no godfather but God the father

Blessing Fubara, the NDC governorship candidate for Rivers State, came out yesterday on Arise TV to say he has no godfather but God. He made it clear that his ambition is not an extension of his brother Governor Sim Fubara's political project. He said they have different political ideologies and individual perspectives.

This one is interesting because everybody in Rivers knows the kind of political godfatherism that has been choking the state for years. Blessing said Nigerians saw what happened between his brother and his former party, so people should not think he is just a proxy. He said the soul of Rivers State must be rescued.

My question is, can a man really run for governor without a godfather in Nigeria and still survive the political jungle? Or is this just campaign talk?
