Abeg tell me, which japa dream still dey make sense for 2026?
My daughter came back from school yesterday talking about her friend whose parents are moving to Canada. I just looked at her and sighed. These children think japa is like picking mango from a tree. When I was coming up in Ibadan, we didn't even know Canada existed until somebody's uncle went there for conference.
Now every young person I meet on WhatsApp group is either planning to leave or crying because they can't. But see ehn, I have helped 14 family members with UK visas and I can tell you one thing , the dream is not what it used to be. The cost of living here is something else. My friend's son just came to London last month, he is already looking for how to go back. He said the Naira to Pound conversion is ₦1,885 to £1 now. You know say that one is not a joke.
I just want to understand from you young people. Who among una still believes japa is the answer? Or una don tire of the wahala abroad? And if you stay back for Naija, what is keeping you there? I'm asking because my own children are confused and I don't know what to tell them anymore.
