22 years in SA and she still had to run back home
5 months ago
I just read about Milly Abuh who spent 22 years in South Africa and still had to evacuate back to Nigeria on Thursday because of xenophobia. She said she even learned to speak their local languages, integrated fully, but the discrimination never stopped. The worst part? Her child came home one day and told her the teacher said Nigerians are kidnappers and killers. Imagine a teacher telling your child that.
She lost her spa business too because authorities said she didn't have the right permit. After 22 years of building a life, she came back with nothing but relief that her kids can finally breathe. The Acting High Commissioner, Alexander Ajayi, confirmed 258 Nigerians were evacuated in the first batch and President Tinubu set up a hotline to track the crisis since April.
Milly said being back home is a big relief and she wants a fresh start. But after 22 years, how do you even begin to rebuild? I wonder how many of us would have the strength to start over like that.
