MKO Abiola refused to sell his mandate to Abacha — Oshiomhole drops fresh gist
5 months ago
Senator Adams Oshiomhole just revealed something wey make me respect MKO Abiola even more. During a June 12 lecture in Akure yesterday, he said he was part of a Labour Congress delegation that met Abacha after the election was cancelled. Abacha told them he was ready to do anything for Abiola, except accept that Abiola had declared himself President.
But here's the part wey get me — Oshiomhole said government officials and middlemen were pressuring Abiola to sell the mandate, but the man refused. He said Abiola told them, "I was elected President of Nigeria and will not sell the mandate entrusted to me by the Nigerian people." Imagine the kind of pressure he faced, yet he stood firm. This is the kind of integrity we need to see from our leaders today, not the ones wey dey collect money and abandon their responsibilities.
Oshiomhole also said President Tinubu is pushing for state police amendment and told them to get it done fast. June 12 is not just about remembering MKO, it's about learning from his sacrifice. How many of our current politicians fit show this level of principle?
