Retired General Dies in Bandits' Custody, Wife Still Held

President Bola Tinubu has reacted with shock to the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar, who died while in the custody of bandits who abducted him in Katsina State. The presidency confirmed the news in a State House statement on Saturday, describing the incident as a tragic reminder of the security challenges facing parts of the country.

The statement read: "President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed shock over the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of terrorists in Katsina State. General Abubakar, after a distinguished career in the military, retired a few years ago. He was on his way to his hometown when the hoodlums captured him."

What makes this even more painful is that his wife was taken alongside him and is still being held by the abductors. A retired senior military officer killed while travelling to his hometown, and his wife remains in captivity. This is the reality we are living in.
