Fr Mbaka just exposed Peter Obi's fair-weather supporters
5 months ago
Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka finally broke his silence on Friday about his relationship with Peter Obi, and the things he said during that church programme in Enugu are not sitting well with many of Obi's supporters. Mbaka claimed he took enormous risks for Obi when he was impeached as governor of Anambra State, including midnight movements to gather documents to bring him back. He said, "The risk I took for him when he was impeached as a governor, 99.9 per cent of those who were following him abandoned him."
Mbaka specifically named Chris Uba and Cletus Ibeto as witnesses to what happened behind the scenes during that period. He said, "Go and ask Chris Uba (Eselu), he is still alive. Ibeto is still alive. Let me just mention a few who were in the inner room where things happened." The priest insisted he is not a problem to Obi and questioned why people are now accusing him of failing to support the former governor. He said, "All I did for Peter, none of these people crying Obi, Obi... can't do one out of hundred of what I did for Peter Obi."
What strikes me about this is the way Mbaka framed the whole thing with that proverb about the corpse. He said, "If the corpse starts smelling, we will know those that love the deceased when he was alive." It is a hard truth but a fair one. When Obi was down and out, where were all these people now shouting his name? Mbaka was there in the inner room doing the work. Now the same people want to erase that history. Why are we so quick to rewrite narratives when it suits our present heroes?
