Port Harcourt youths send clear message to Tinubu on Democracy Day

On Friday, June 12, while many Nigerians were observing Democracy Day, some residents of Port Harcourt in Rivers State decided to use the occasion to send a direct message to President Bola Tinubu. A video clip now circulating shows a group of predominantly young protesters chanting, "Get your voter cards, Tinubu must go." This was not a small gathering — these were youths who have clearly decided that the 2027 elections are their next battleground.

What struck me about this protest is the strategic shift. They are not just venting — they are calling on eligible voters to secure their Permanent Voter Cards. This is the kind of political consciousness we have been asking for. Human rights lawyer Femi Falana and activist Omoyele Sowore also led EndBadGovernance protests in Lagos and Abuja on the same day, showing that this frustration is national, not regional.

I have been following policy decisions from this administration, and I cannot say I am surprised. When the cost of living keeps rising and basic infrastructure remains neglected, citizens will eventually find their voice. The question now is: will the government listen before 2027, or will it wait for the ballot box to do the talking?
