City Boy Movement threatens protesters with legal action over arson

The City Boy Movement, a group campaigning for President Tinubu's second term, has released a statement saying they have video footage of protesters who occupied their Abuja headquarters on Friday. The Deputy Director-General, O'Tega Ogra, said in a statement that one person was heard on the footage calling for the building to be set on fire. He said the footage has been preserved and will be handed over to security agencies, and they will pursue the matter to the fullest extent of the law.

Now, I understand the frustration people feel with insecurity and hardship. But threatening to burn down someone's property is not protest, it is arson. Ogra said, "Your right to peaceful protest does not give anyone the licence to threaten others, obstruct their work, or attempt to disenfranchise fellow Nigerians from freely associating with a political movement." He also warned young Nigerians not to be used by people who send them to cause trouble while sitting safely somewhere else.

So who is really behind the violence at that protest? And why would anyone think setting fire to a building is the way to demand change?
