Falana says Nigeria is on civil rule, not democracy yet
5 months ago
Femi Falana dropped a truth bomb yesterday at the Amnesty International Nigeria AGM in Abuja. He said what we have in Nigeria is not genuine democracy, just civil rule. He warned that military rule is never better, but we must be honest that our system is not delivering justice, accountability, or social welfare to ordinary Nigerians.
He spoke about the gap between constitutional promises and daily reality. Education, healthcare, security, economic opportunities — all still out of reach for millions. He said democracy is not just about elections but about institutions that respect rights and uphold the rule of law. Until citizens experience freedom, justice, and dignity, we are just celebrating 27 years of civilian government without the actual fruits.
For me, this is the conversation we should be having in Kano, in Lagos, everywhere. Are we really democratic when poverty and insecurity are the norm? Be honest, how many of you feel like your vote has changed anything in your daily life?
