Gbenga Hashim calls out Sowore attack on Democracy Day, says MDR ready to resist
5 months ago
Accord Party candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has condemned the reported attack on Omoyele Sowore and other protesters during the Democracy Day demonstration. He said the right to peaceful protest and free expression are fundamental and must not be undermined. Hashim warned that democracy cannot survive where citizens are intimidated for demanding accountability.
Hashim, who is also Co-Chairman of the Movement for Democratic Renewal alongside NLC President Joe Ajero, said MDR was established to defend Nigeria's democratic space and prevent any drift towards authoritarianism. He condemned the continued harassment of Sowore including the seizure of his passport which remains unresolved despite legal interventions. MDR will continue to mobilise democratic forces and citizens committed to protecting democratic institutions.
When will these security agencies understand that Nigerians have constitutional rights? Or is it only their own rights that matter?
