Retired General Killed in Bandit Captivity — DHQ Confirms

The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the death of General Rabe Abubakar (retd.), who was kidnapped by bandits a few weeks ago. He and his wife were abducted while on their way to a wedding. His driver escaped with gunshot wounds and his Peugeot 406 was riddled with bullets.

Major General Samaila Uba, Director of Defence Information, issued a statement saying General Abubakar served the nation with distinction as a spokesperson for various military formations and as Director of Defence Information. The statement noted that every operational resource was deployed hoping for his safe return, but it was not to be.

The AFN has vowed to intensify operations against terrorist networks responsible for this and other abductions. How many more lives must be lost before this government takes the security of its citizens seriously? This is not just a loss to the military family — it is a loss to every Nigerian who believes in the rule of law.
