Boko Haram Burns Schools in Chibok Again — This Is a War on Education

M

Suspected Boko Haram or ISWAP terrorists have set multiple schools ablaze in Kautikari village, Chibok local government area of Borno State. The attack happened around 7pm on Saturday, forcing residents to flee into the bush for safety. No casualties have been reported so far, but the destruction is complete — primary and secondary schools reduced to ashes.

This comes just weeks after pupils from Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School in Askira-Uba were abducted and held for nearly a month. A resident disclosed that the terrorists had attacked the village months ago but did not destroy property then. This time, they came with a clear mission to erase educational infrastructure.

Authorities in the state have not yet confirmed the incident. But for those of us who remember Chibok 2014, this feels like a deliberate campaign to deny children in the Northeast any chance at learning. How many more schools must burn before this government treats insecurity as a national emergency?
