A retired Major General died in bandits' den — this is a national disgrace
5 months ago
Captain Abdullahi Bakoji, a retired military officer and security analyst, has described the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar in kidnappers' custody as a national disgrace. In an exclusive interview with Daily Post on Saturday, Bakoji said this should be a wake-up call for the government and security agencies to revisit their tactics. The General and his wife were kidnapped in Katsina while travelling to Kaduna State, and the Katsina State government confirmed on Saturday that he died in the terrorists' den.
Bakoji lamented that a retired Major General who dedicated his life to protecting the nation could die in the hands of common terrorists. He said, "This shows there's a massive gap in security tactics especially in getting intelligence reports, deterring crimes before they happen and urgent response to crimes." He also noted that poverty plays a huge role in fueling Nigeria's insecurity and must be tackled from the root. If a General is not safe, what about the ordinary Nigerian? When will this end?
