A joint operation by DSS operatives and the Nigerian Army foiled a planned kidnapping of WAEC students by the outlawed Eastern Security Network in the South-East. The raid on Wednesday targeted an ESN armoury in the Agbani axis of Enugu State, recovering eight AK-47 rifles, 12 magazines, 323 rounds of ammunition, and NYSC uniforms. Intelligence indicated the attackers planned to disguise themselves in NYSC gear to abduct students at examination centres in Enugu, Anambra, and Imo States.A security source said, “Members of the terrorist group had planned to target selected schools across the South-East in a bid to create the impression that bandits had infiltrated the region.” Several suspects were arrested. The operation followed a Tuesday raid in Garki, Enugu State, where a rocket launcher, RPG warheads, and more weapons were seized.
