Retired Major General kidnapped and killed in Katsina - is anyone safe anymore?
Yesterday, the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) condemned the abduction and gruesome murder of Major General Rabe Abubakar (rtd) by terrorists in Katsina State. This man dedicated his entire life to defending Nigeria, rose to the rank of Major General, and still criminals could just take him and kill him like that.
CONYL President General Good luck Ibem said it best: "If a retired Major General can be kidnapped and killed by terrorists, then it is clear that no Nigerian is safe." They called it a direct assault on the Nigerian state. And they are right. If our top military officers cannot even sleep in their own homes without fear, what about the ordinary farmer in Katsina or the student in Enugu?
They are calling on President Tinubu to show decisive leadership and end this scourge. But the question that keeps me awake is simple: if the people paid to protect us cannot protect themselves, who exactly is going to save the rest of us?
