258 Nigerians sent back from South Africa, banned for 5 years

So 258 Nigerians just landed at MMIA yesterday from South Africa, brought back by Air Peace after the xenophobic attacks got too hot. South Africa's Home Affairs said they were all declared undesirable and cannot return for five years.

But here is the thing — our Acting High Commissioner, Ambassador Temitope Ajayi, came out strong and said it is false to call them undocumented. He said many of them had permit renewals stuck in South Africa's slow system, not that they were illegal. Abike Dabiri-Erewa from NIDCOM was at the airport to receive them, and President Tinubu paid for the flight himself.

Each returnee is getting N100,000 from FG, N50,000 airtime from MTN, and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma approved N1 million for every Imo indigene among them. But five years ban? That one pain me. Imagine building your life there and they just send you packing with a ban. What do you all think — is South Africa right to be this strict or are they just targeting Nigerians?
