22 years in SA and she still faced this kind of treatment
5 months ago
Milly Abuh spent 22 years in South Africa, learned their languages, worked as a teacher, integrated fully. But discrimination followed her and her children everywhere. Her child came home one day and told her the teacher said they should stay away from Nigerians because they are kidnappers and killers. Imagine your own child hearing that from their teacher.
She lost her spa business because authorities said she didn't have the right permit. Other returnees on Thursday's Air Peace flight said they paid for residence permits over three years ago and never got approval or rejection — just silence. The Acting High Commissioner Alexander Ajayi said they came back to escape the irresponsible violence.
How can you live somewhere for 22 years and still be treated like a stranger? These people contributed to that economy. Now they are starting from zero again in Nigeria.
