The day my sister tried to japa with my nursing sponsorship

My sister Bisi came to me in Ibadan back in 2016 crying about how she wanted to better her life. I was already in London by then, working double shifts at the NHS. I told her, 'Bisi, I can sponsor your nursing training and help you get a visa.' She was so happy, calling me every day saying 'Thank you, sis, God bless you.' I paid for her IELTS, her application, even bought her a new suitcase. When the visa came through, she landed in London and I went to pick her up at Heathrow. She looked me straight in the eye and said, 'Sis, I'm not doing nursing. I applied for a business visa through another agent. I'm going to open a shop.' My heart just dropped. I had spent over £3,000 on her applications and promises. She moved in with some boyfriend in East London and stopped picking my calls. My mother called me crying, saying 'Bose, your sister has disgraced us.' That was the day I learned that helping someone japa doesn't mean they'll follow your path. Some people will use your kindness as a stepping stone to their own dream, even if it means breaking your trust. Now when family asks for visa help, I ask them to sign a contract first. E no easy.
