Chris Nwaokobia says leaders have abandoned Nigerians to poverty, youths must reject ethnic politics

Chris Nwaokobia Jr, Human Rights Activist and Convener of the Country First movement, spoke on ARISE NEWS today and he did not hold back. He said leaders have abandoned Nigerians to worsening poverty, and that the democracy we have now is just about personal ambition and failed leadership. He even said he wakes up every morning with tears in his eyes because people are asking him for $2,000, $5,000, $10,000 just to feed their children.

Nwaokobia said the political class is more focused on 'me, myself, and I' instead of national interest. He warned young voters that if we keep voting based on ethnicity and religion instead of competence and capacity, nothing will change. He recalled the 1993 June 12 struggle and said the vision behind it has been replaced by division and identity politics. All we talk about now is where the candidate is from, not what they can do.

He said the future will favour those who are proactive, not reactive. And that we must interrogate the entire political class, both the opposition and the leadership. Be honest, when last did you hear a politician talk about job creation and production instead of the next election?
