Abuja youth are tired but I need to know what you're really feeling
5 months ago
I was in the car this morning dropping my daughter at school and I overheard two young women talking outside the gate. One said she has stopped dreaming of japa because even the visa process is too expensive now. The other said she is just focusing on her side hustle and hoping for the best. It made me think.
From where I sit in Abuja, I see so many young people working so hard and still struggling to afford rent in the capital. The cost of living here is something else. But I also see people finding small ways to survive. What is the mood like for you right now? Are you still holding on to the japa dream or have you accepted your reality here?
Also I need to know what new slang the youth are using these days. My younger cousin told me I am too 'parastatal' for the streets and I still don't know if that was a compliment or an insult.
